On April 18, the first Rule-of-Law Journalism Symposium was held in Beijing Fortune Law Firm. The journalists from the rule-of-law media such as Xinhuanet, Legaldaily, jcrb.com, china.com.cn, The Paper, Beijing Times, Beijing Youth Daily, Democracy and Legal System Magazine, People Rule of Law Magazine, Beijing Business Today, and andlvshi.com, etc. distinguished guests and Fortune Law Firm discussed on the hot topics in rule-of-law news reports

         The attenders believed that the further promotion of social reform provided rich resources for rule-of-law news reports in the background of the current comprehensive promotion of rule-of-law. The most significant value of rule-of-law news reports does not only lie in the genuine and objective reporting of news facts, but also lie in the transmission of equality and justice in the belief of rule-of-law through the expression of news discourse. All the attenders all agreed that the news media should take responsibilities in the hot social events and endeavor to demonstrate the genuine rule-of-law practices in the current society with professional reports.
         Esq. Li Jiwei, the senior partner of Fortune Law Firm gave the keynote speech. He said: Several recent hot social events, such as Yu Huan case and Wang Baoqiang divorce case, had raised extensive concern in the society These hot social events with disclosure and report of the media in the form of rule-of-law news, allowed the pubic to know the facts of the event in time, as well as promoted the solution of relevant cases in the track of rule of law. Therefore, he thought: rule-of-law news had significant promotion effect in the current social background, especially from the aspect of comprehensive rule of law strategy put forward by General Secretary Xi. The Symposium arranged two topics for discussion, the first as “Discussion on core value of rule-of-law news” and the second as “How news media promote the comprehensive development of rule of law in the report of hot social events”. He believed: the core value of rule of law was equality and justice, and the core value of news should be truth of the matter, both of which jointly formed the core value of rule-of-law news; as for the second topic, he mentioned that the report of news media on hot social issues should follow two basic principles – the first was objective disclosure of truth of the matter to allow the public to fully have corresponding right to know, and secondly, a majority of the hot social events, especially these reported by rule-of-law news might involve judicial litigation or enter into judicial procedures in the future. Therefore, the news media should also consider the avoidance of the influences on normal judicial procedures when disclosing the truth of the matter.

   
         Moreover, the attenders made thorough discussion on the selection of theme, approach of topic, objective expression of language, and responsibilities of journalists in rule-of-law news report with combination of specific collection and edition practices.
         The Rule-of-law Journalism Symposium targeted the joint thinking of legal practitioners and media practitioners on relevant issues involved in rule-of-law news and the discussion on the more positive function of rule-of-law news in the promotion of comprehensive rule of law. It was learnt that as the host Fortune Law Firm would hold symposiums on relevant topics of rule-of-law report for the hot rule-of-law events.
